Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery

The Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery offers patients a full range of weight loss surgeries supported by long-term comprehensive care. Our team includes surgeons who are recognized as pioneers in laparoscopic weight loss surgery, along with nurse practitioners, registered dietitians, psychologists and physician assistants.  Our multidisciplinary approach to weight management is critical to our patients' success in achieving permanent weight loss and healthier lives.

A variety of serious medical problems are associated with obesity, including diabetes, heart disease, cancer, arthritis, hypertension and many others. The risks associated with medically severe obesity are greater than those associated with its surgical treatments.

Gastric Bypass is the most common form of weight loss surgery in the United States because it results in reliable weight loss with acceptable risks and minimal side effects. In gastric bypass surgery, the surgeon staples off a large section of the stomach, leaving a tiny pouch. Patients simply can't eat as much as they did before surgery, because the pouch can only accommodate a few ounces of food at a time, and they subsequently lose weight.  Appropriate candidates for this surgery are those who are 100 pounds or more overweight.

Most of our patients realize substantial weight loss soon after surgery and experience a significant improvement in health and quality of life. One measure of our success is the community of patients that has grown out of our program.  We have established formal and informal ways to stay connected, from our newsletters to clothing exchanges and monthly support meetings.

We understand what it means to constantly struggle with weight issues, and we are pleased to offer the opportunity for a long-term solution.
